The Heart Practice for Difficult Times

Here is another short video extract from the Sky News feature On Life, Laughter and Death (1992). In this piece, writer Andrew Harvey–who along with Patrick Gaffney edited The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying–interviews Sogyal Rinpoche about the importance of the Heart Practice for overcoming difficulties.

This practice is given more fully in Chapter 19 of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, where Sogyal Rinpoche writes:

“I would now like to give you a practice that can truly help you when you are suffering from deep sorrow and grief…[W]henever you are desperate, anguished, or depressed, whenever you feel you cannot go on, or you feel your heart is breaking, I advise you to do this practice. The only conditions to the effectiveness of this practice are that you need to do it with all your might, and that you need to ask, really to ask, for help.”
